Once known as the "Pearl of Asia," the city is rich in history, blending French colonial architecture with traditional Khmer elements. This is a great stop to learn about Cambodia’s ancient history and understand the cultural heritage that shapes the nation today.
After traditional lunch, you will visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, also known as S-21. This former high school was turned into a detention and torture center by the Khmer Rouge during their regime. The museum serves as a sobering reminder of Cambodia’s tragic past and the atrocities that took place under Pol Pot’s rule.
Then Choeung Ek Killing Fields, a short drive outside the city brings you to the Choeung Ek Killing Fields, where thousands of Cambodians were executed during the Khmer Rouge regime. The site is now a memorial, with a stupa filled with the skulls of victims, offering a solemn space for reflection on the horrors of war and genocide.
